WHERE TO GO CAMPING —

The heritage of Buckskin Lodge significantly predates the start of the Order of the Arrow in the council. The symbols, their meanings, and those traditions which help bind all members together in a life of service to Scouting and ultimately our fellow man, came from The Buckskin Sons of Wauwepex. Establishing Buckskin Lodge 412 was essential to making unselfish service a permanent part of the Scouting program in Nassau County. It fulfilled all of the visions of the Buckskin Sons of Wauwepex and its founders.

Preserving our most cherished traditions and yet binding us into a national brotherhood of honor campers, Buckskin Lodge #412, Order of the Arrow, became a reality on September 3, 1949. The years since the Sons’ passage into the Order have been a shining light of “service and devotion to the welfare of others”, with particular focus on Camp Wauwepex (Schiff Scout Reservation) and Onteora Scout Reservation where the dedicated service of lodge arrowmen have promoted the camp program and labored to improve and protect their facilities.

In keeping with that dedication to service, the Buckskin Lodge Camp Promotion Committee Chair, Adviser and Committee members, are working hard to provide camping information to scouting units, including where to go for weekend outings, day activities, special events, summer camp, etc. The Committee will be posting area camp and facility information to this site, to help units plan their outings and activities.

The first two camps on the list are our Council’s camps – Onteora Scout Reservation and Schiff Scout Reservation!  They offer great facilities and outstanding program, especially the summer camp programs!  Check it out….

Other camps in our immediate area, can be found listed to the left side.  Just scroll and click to learn more about each camp.  Please be sure to visit often as we add more area camps!

We ask that you “share” this information to your unit’s FB page or web site and to District media. We want to get units and scouts – “out”!!   Begin planning today!  Put together a fun program, find a camp here on the Lodge web site.  Do a day hike, a weekend trek, cabin camp, canoe, climb, fish, mountain bike and more!

It’s always time to go camping!
